Global Ocean Biogeochemistry at UH Mānoa

I started at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa in July 2019. I am now an Associate Professor and am lucky enough to lead the HI-Cycles group. Our work is centered around biogeochemical cycles in the ocean, especially the processes that control oxygen and carbon exchange between the ocean and atmosphere.
We work across a number of scales – from understanding and improving sensors, to process level understanding of how biological and physical mechanisms impact ocean biogeochemistry, to quantifying regional and global air-sea fluxes. This field requires an understanding of chemistry, biology, and physics (or good collaborators who do) which is what makes it so challenging and fun.
